Add Environmental Variable via Script

By | October 6, 2009

Several months ago I was searching for a way to add environmental variables to a system via a vbscript because we have a piece of software which requires special paths set in order to run. I was unable to find anything at the time which was able to do what I wanted it to do. Well today while browsing the forums over at http://petri.co.il I stumbled across a script posted by Rems which does exactly what I needed. Since it was so hard to find before, I decided to post it here… hoping the next person doesn’t have to look so hard.

Delete Logs / Files in Subfolders

By | April 1, 2009

I decided to check the size of some of my logs on specific servers. Well, as it turns out there were 4GB of logs! I needed a script that would delete the files after so many days. I was really lazy and looked up the recursion portion (MS Scripting Guys)! You can point this script anywhere and it will delete any files older then the days you specify.

Rollout the Office 2007 Converter Pack Silently

By | April 4, 2008

Lots of companies don’t want to shell out the $$$ for going to Office 2007. Luckily, Microsoft has a file converter that allows users with Office 2003 to read and edit Office 2007 files!

My script will allow you to silently install the .exe on your users’ machines.

Just add it to a GPO

Download the converter pack here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=941b3470-3ae9-4aee-8f43-c6bb74cd1466&displaylang=en

From Microsoft:

Users of the Microsoft Office XP and 2003 programs Word, Excel, or PowerPoint—please install all High-Priority updates from Microsoft Update before downloading the Compatibility Pack.

By installing the Compatibility Pack in addition to Microsoft Office 2000, Office XP, or Office 2003, you will be able to open, edit, and save files using the file formats new to Word, Excel, and PowerPoint 2007. The Compatibility Pack can also be used in conjunction with the Microsoft Office Word Viewer 2003, Excel Viewer 2003, and PowerPoint Viewer 2003 to view files saved in these new formats. For more information about the Compatibility Pack, see Knowledge Base article 924074.

The lazy admin knew I had a script that would do something to a users acount. Somthing with the passsword.
Well, I did. But not what he was asking for. So, I took the previous password script and changed it.
